Last Friday they had 16mm rain at Lara - but there has been no further rain to speak of since and the road into the property thankfully is now open.
We have heard about this place from many travellers on our previous journeying around the countryside and expectations are high. Our plan on leaving home is to probably have a restful 5days or so here - but on arrival we just pay for 3 days to see how we like it.
The campground is set around a natural depression in the landscape that would have previously only filled up when big rains come - but the owners have diverted natural bore waters so that it is now a permanent small lake. To top things off theyhave also created a hot thermal pool for travellers to enjoy whilst here.
Everything in this campground is pretty casual and there are no organised sites - you just rock in and pick where you want to be. The owner doesn't want it to look like a caravan park.
We are lucky to get a great spot on the waters edge and near the amenities.
We also scored lovely friendly neighbours on both sides (Carol and Bill from Victoria/ Geoff end Brenda from Wellington Point, Qld)
The whole campground just seems to be mostly filled with very friendly helpful people and over our time here we have many interesting conversations with both travellers and the lovely caretakers.
Well I guess you have to be a pretty friendly lot to stay somewhere with Unisex/Communal amenities - yes both the toilets and showers are unsex - even has the men's urinal up the far end!!!
Can't say that many of the men seem to use the urinal as it is up the end just the other side of the showers where everyone sits and waits their turn - for a shower that is!!
The showers are heated daily by a "Donkey hot water" system - we seem to manage to time it so we got really hot water and didn't have to wait in line. Perfecto!!!
This sign is a warning not t take from the wood pile used for the "Donkey".
We enjoy our time here being able to take a daily dip in the thermal pools, bird watching, reading in the beautiful sunshine, watching gorgeous sunsets - as well as a 4km walk each day out past the homestead along the road into the property (along with a few other couples doing the same walk).
The is plenty of wood to forage for and we have a continual fire going and enjoy our meat beautifully cooked over the coals on our little BBQ.
Well we finally decided after 6 days at Lara that we really should move on - although we are sooooo relaxed and content here it takes a supreme effort to push ourselves to leave!! We are also sad to be leaving the company of the people we have enjoyed being with and having a few red wines with. C'est La Vie!!
We will be back next time we need a recharge - it's just that kind of spot!!
