Road Trip 2017 - Day 11 (18th July) - Virgin Rock - Springsure

We trotted into the Emerald shopping precinct at 9.00am looking for a second hand bookshop/ book exchange. Bought a coffee and found out that there is no longer any bookshops in town 😕!
We did however locate VInnies and did find a good second hand read for Moores - thank goodness - as she has read almost two books already in 2 weeks!!

We did another short hop this morning to Springsure. I remembered coming through here 4 years ago with the McElhones (after we left Carnarvon Gorge) and I always wanted to go back and see Virgin Rocks lit up at night.
(Note: I'm sure Cindy & Russ will remember the 4 of us sitting outside the Spar store, sipping coffee in the warm sun, writing the Mills and Boon story)

We were early into the Lions Club free camp at Springsure - with already 2 lots set up before us. We spent a quite afternoon lunching and reading and watching this small free camp fill up for the night.
It is a great little free camp at the foot of Vigin rocks which dominate the skyline of Springsure. The lions club have completed new flushing toilets here and it's a very good flat site.

As darkness approached the Virgin Rocks are lit up with a subdued orange glow from the lighting installed by the local town.
Here is our Quantum sitting at the foot of the rocks

Sunrise then naturally lights up the view for us the next morning --

And I manage to get a reasonable shot of the the "Virgin Mary" - a natural likeness in this rock formation

I'm glad we made this stopover - an unusual little free camp along our travels this year!!
