Before leaving Longreach this morning we needed to go into town to try and source a couple more jerry cans to make sure we would be able to get through our planned journey from Winton through Diamantina NP to Bedourie.
Here we are parked outside the Longreach Railway station:
We finally got a picture of the Tropic of Capricorn - which we have crossed a couple of times already in our journey so far. Thanx Russ and Moores for posing for me for this picture.
Since we were nearby - we went to the the Merino Bakery (we had really enjoyed this placeon our previous visit) where we all enjoyed coffee and toast.
Morning tea done and our purchases completed we then set off for Winton (this would be our second visit to Winton on this trip for us).
First stop in Winton was the "Musical Fence" as Cindy was pretty excited to check this out. I an glad we came back as this time we found the metal pipes and managed to create a good tune on the "fence"
Cindy is pictured here having a great old time creating music:
Ruth managed (after much negotiating with the woman in charge) to secure the last 2x spots at the back of the North Gregory Hotel.
Its a gold coin donation" per night and you get the use of hot shower and toilets and the laundromat.
It was pretty funny dealing with the lady who looked after the parking arrangements in this car park area of the hotel and she was pretty bossy with her directions to Ruth on how and where to park the camper. Well at least Cindy, Russ and Moores and everyone else found quite amusing.
Its a pretty amazing deal if you don't mind being cramped in a dusty car park.
There is however an upside as the pub has great food and offers a nice friendly atmosphere. So I would think that, although they virtually charge nothing ($1.00 per night for maximum of 2x nights) to camp out back of the pub, they do pretty well as majority of people eat a meal at the pub and drink there.
We got stuck into getting some washing done - set up couple of clothes lines off the back of the campers and with the wind and sun today it was drying in no time.
We enjoyed chatting with some other travellers and found out a good section of Bladensburg National Park in our trip planned for tomorrow.
Cindy and Russ went off to the Waltzing Matilda Centre. Whilst Moores and I went up to the pub beer garden to listen to a band that had set up for this Sunday arvo.
This band (Mic Travers Band from Brisbane) was awesome. The lead singer/ guitarist, fiddle player and saxophonist were all very talented musicians and provided a great afternoon of entertainment for us.
We will definitely be looking them up when I get home and trying to catch another of their gigs around Brisbane.
We spent all the afternoon at the pub drinking and enjoying the music and and then had dinner there - so they did do well out of us!!!!
Here are a couple of other pics around Winton:
The garbage bins around town are very cute - as pictured below - they are Dinosaur feet!!
And this sign outside the local Butcher shop we thought was pretty unusual!!!! - we probably should have tried some but just couldn't.
