Longreach (Day 18)

This morning we moved camp out of town to the free camp at Apex park 4km out on the Thomson River.
This was amazing - its like a caravan park - as there was 70-80 caravans & campers out there and the site provided toilets of reasonable standard and cleanliness (as they are serviced daily)
Apparently there are this many here every night at this time of year.

This is the view from one direction --

---- And now a shot in the other direction.

Ruth had decided to do some hand washing of the "delicates" in the laundry at the caravan park before leaving this morning - and then proceeded to construct a makeshift clothesline out at the free camp site and hang out all the underwear.

It was a vision splendid - The "Undie" tree!!!

We went exploring along the river at the campsite and saw lots of wallaby tracks in the area

In the afternoon we had booked to do a 'McKinnon & Co' stagecoach ride package. This consisted of a funny and entertaining show of a day in the life of 'Starlight' a cattle duffer in these parts and his horse "rainbow" (so called because he was always painting the horse a different colour in an effort not to be recognised when he came into a town).

Then came the 45 minutes stagecoach ride on a track out of town in a horse drawn Cobb & Co carriage (drawn by 4x horses).
There were 12 passengers - inside & on top at back and front.
We did a slow trot out and a gallop for part of the way back getting up to 50 kph on a rough track. This was pretty dam bumpy ride and an exhilarating experience.

Then we had tea and scones and watched an old "Smiley" movie with Chipps Rafferty in it, in a mock up of an old time theatre.

Bbrrrrrr!!!! - tonight was our coldest night so far as there was a cold breeze blowing and we were in bed pretty much straight after dinner.
