Day 6 - 4th June 2015: Floating down the Thermal Waters at Bitter Springs

At Daly waters pub yesterday we were happy to see another tvan roll in just after we arrived in the afternoon - it was the guys we had been chatting with a couple of days ago driving the Barkley Highway.  Lovely guy Allan and his wife Sally and 2x young kiddies from Tassie travelling to the Kimberley's. We had a chat before dinner about our rigs and then again in the morning we compared notes on a few modifications he has made and couple of things we had done that he liked as well.

We were finally off - after Ruth stopped talking to Allan about the vans!!

We made our way back on to the highway heading for Mataranka our destination for today - a relatively short stint of only 169km.

It was decided that we would camp at Bitter Springs campground - which it turned out was a bit expensive at $30 for the night for a unpowered site. This blew our average so far from $8.00 / night to $12 / night. But we did take the opportunity to do some washing and the hot showers were fantastic.
The sites have lots of shade and are nicely tucked away from each other.

Here is out little "humpy"!

The major feature here however is its proximity to Bitter Springs - the thermal springs where everyone goes to float serenely 100metres down the crystal clear warm waters - with their noodles. The site is well done with good access at both ends of the section you float along and an easy path back to the start.

The water was sooooo crystal clear you could see everything on the bottom clear as looking through glass.

We enjoyed this experience several times - as it was very calming and so very relaxing being buoyed along in the slow current down this narrow area of water. There were quite a few people there and everyone was just chatting and laughing and watching the birds and generally enjoying what a lovely experience this is.
