It was built in the 1980's and services a lot of travellers on this highway in NT.
We had a coffee and good look around and headed off for our camp for tonight - the Devils Marbles Conservation Park - 100km South of Tennant Creek. We decided it would be a worthwhile diversion from our main area of travel - to the northern areas of NT.
So once we reached Three Ways we turned left on the Stuart Highway and south through Tennant Creek and onto the Devils Marbles - reaching our destination by lunch. I had read that the campground here can fill up pretty quickly this time of year so you need to be early to get a spot.
We arrived about 12.30pm and there were already 20 campsites occupied. We got a good spot and as the afternoon rolled on it filled up with at least double that many before people starting arriving and finding that they could not secure a spot.
It's a great campground here and cheap at $3.30/adult/ night.
We set off after lunch exploring the Devils Marbles the scenic attraction of this campground. We had a good wander exploring all around the site and climbed up on top where the vista takes on quite a new perspective.
Come sunset we set off up on the "Marbles" again - climbing up with our cameras to try and get some nice shots.
It did not turn out to be the greatest of sunsets as there were no clouds to enhance the colours. But we did have fun taking some "shadow play" shots.
What was interesting was that from our vantage point we were actually watching the sun slipping behind the hills and at the same time we could turn around and in the East the magnificent full moon was just rising up from the horizon. I have never been in quite such a position before where you could clearly watch both spectacular events at the same time. It's was truly marvellous.
We have heard many reports from others about this place and it has not disappointed!!
We are off to bed early with plans to get up to see the sunrise on the "Marbles"
