Friday 11th April, 2014: The rest of the crew arrive at Rawnsley Station!!

This morning we were up and heading out early for another short walk.

We were pretty excited as we were expecting Neil, Lisa & co to arrive before lunch and Cindy & Russ not too long after them.

The walk this morning - to Ferntree Waterfall- was again a fairly easy walk of about 1 1/2 hours. As with any walk in this area it was very scenic and exhilarating.

We saw an emu footprint along this walk

And I took this photo of the rustic old fence - my attempt at being "arty"

The weather was still a little overcast - but there was no forecast of rain now. The sun was peeping through more often and it looked like it could turn out to be a pretty nice day.

This was good news as our tent and awning are now completely dry and we hoped it would stay that way for us - as we could not pack up and leave the tvan for 12 days with the canvas wet. We have our fingers crossed that the weather will now stay dry until we leave on Monday.

We came back and pretty much on schedule the Gibsons arrived. They were as excited as we were - just to be here and finally on their way for the Simpson Desert Crossing.  They were also excited as we were that the rain had stopped as they been a week in the caravan in Mt Remarkable National Park in the rain. So not the ideal start to the holiday.

We learnt from Neil that he had rung Mt Dare Hotel and the roads we would be needing to travel, to get to our kick-off point for the Simpson Desert crossing, were currently closed because of this large rainfall event they have just been having in South Australia.
We had not realise that the rain had affected any areas that far north of us

So our plans are now a little up in the air and in the lap of the gods. Or at least the 'Rain Gods".

It was not too long after the Gibsons got themselves setup, that Cindy & Russ arrived - of cause very glad to be here also after such a long drive today from Broken Hill - and they had copped a fair bit of rain as well in their drive to here. They had to go a long way around to get here - because of road conditions - so they were pretty tired.

Another group - Steve, Megan and girls arrived late afternoon. So now were are a group of 4x cars - all here safely and waiting to head off on our Simpson adventure.

The guys headed out for wood - looking along the roads outside the National Park - and came back with a good supply for our fire tonight and the first of our camp oven dinners for this trip.

It was Cindy to be the first camp oven - and it was a fantastic dinner of butterfly lamb and vegetables.

!It was the first of we hope many nights around the camp fire before this journey is done!!
