Road Trip 2017 - Day 19 (26th July) - Off to 1770 to meet the McElhones!!

Today, taking advice from the owner of Mungungo pub, we headed along the Monto-Gladstone road only as far as the little village of Kalpower. It seems the Monto-Gladstone road from Kalpower on is too dangerous at the moment for caravans.

From Kalpower we were advised to head across country SE, through Kalpower State Forest (a really pretty drive - albeit quite steep in places on this dirt road) and back out onto the Bruce Highway, at the back of Lake Monduran, some 60km south of Miriam Vale.

From here we were in contact with Cindy & Russ and it was decided we would head on from Miriam Vale straight into Agnes Water/1770 to try and secure a site for the night.

On arrival in Agnes Water we checked out the free camp at Workmans Beach - but being 12.00 by now - we didn't hold too much hope of getting a spot here. We were correct - and the free camp was chockers - so I started ringing around to see what I could find at this busy time of the year in this area.

We luckily found 2x sites for the night at 1770 Captain Cook Caravan Park - not great sites and costing $32 unpowered. Realistically not too bad a price for this area in the winter "grey nomad" season I suppose.

Cindy and Russ finally arrived, after embarking on a short cut off the Bruce Highway and then having to turn back. There was a lot of exciting chatter and catching up about their trip to Cape York - and then we realised we better quick smart head down the 1770 foreshore to catch the sunset.

So it was a quick pack up of snacks and wine and a 5 minute drive out to the Bustard Bay foreshore so renowned for gorgeous sunsets over the water.

We had fun on the foreshore having our own "happy hour" and then a quick drive up the hill to capture the fading sunset.
