Day 41: Cooper Creek to Quilpie (along the Diamantina Developmental Road)

A relatively short drive - only 228 km from our campsite into Quilpie where we plan to stay in the caravan park mainly just to wash towels and power up Ruth's camera battery (a bit of a nuisance that we cannot charge his one battery in the car).
We also needed to stock up on fresh fruit and veg again.

Today was more red dirt and small sand dunes - but rest of the landscape is flat.
The road today is a 'highway' all the way to Quilpie - all tarred single lane down the centre.
Crossed the Dingo Barrier fence 30 - 40 km east out of Windorah - but saw it too late for a photo opportunity as we had another vehicle up our 'clacker'.

I did finally get the opportunity to get a photo of the road train sign that we have seen every since hitting the outback roads ( although somone has seen fit to adorn this one with xxxx stickers)
Quite a few emus along the way again today and not a great deal of roadkill. This road traverses many properties on the way to Quilpie and no villages/ towns at all - so there is wandering cattle as well to be watchful for.
We had a pretty close call today with a wedge-tail eagle - but we did magae to slow down enough to miss it luckily.

Had a sleep-in and a slow start this morning as we were in no hurry to leave this lovely campsite and we had a couple come over to chat and have a look at the tvan which slowed our progress somewhat.
It was a warm night again and will be another beautiful day today.

We have camped again the last couple of nights just with the back hatch open and the insect screen on.

We were lucky to see 2x spoonbills come into feed in the creek just as we were leaving.

Arrived Quilpie about 12.30pm - set up camp at the local caravan park.
This is another lovely little outback town.
Sorted out some washing and also shopping to stock up with meat and fresh fruit and veg.
We had to wash the bath towels as they were starting to stand up by themselves.

Spent the rest of afternoon in camp kitchen at the caravan park having cup of tea, reading and charging Ruth's camera battery

They also have artesian spa bathing at the caravan park which is pretty nice and they have a fire in this area as well to keep you warm at night when you get out.

Tonight I spent quite a bit of the night by the communal campfire trying to get upto date with my diary / blog notes.
It was a great fire and a very warm and relaxing way to enjoy recording our travels.
