Off again!!!! Heading for South Australia!!!

Saturday 29th March, 2014

We were all packed up and headed off today - heading for South Australia.
We are at the start of our 6 weeks trip to Yorke Peninsula, Flinders Ranges and then across the Simpson Desert to Birdsville.

We drove out west of Brisbane through Toowoomba & Goondawindi and then down into NSW through the, forever flat, Moree Plains.

Just cannot believe how flat it is out on the Moree Plains - you can see forever each side of the road and there are even mirages off in the distance - giving the illusion that there is water there.

Travelling on we came through Narrabri and then stopped overnight at a nice little free camp at Hickey Falls, between Coonabarabran and Gilgranda.
We actually drove straight past it as we were heading further down the road to another place - but when I spotted a couple of other caravans in there I decided we would turn back - had to bloody drive about 7 km up the road to turn around - but back we went.
It was just off the highway- but wasn't really noisy for us. There was the added bonus of a lovely little waterfall just 5 min walk from the camp - it was gushing after all the rain they have had of late and we could here the sound of water more than any traffic noise throughout the night.

I did get up during the night and discovered a little fox prowling around the campsite - looking for scraps I expect. He didn't seem too startled to find me shining a torch straight at him and was happy just to stand there and look at me and then go about his business.

Sorry no photos from this camp as it was getting on dark when we pulled in there and by the time we chatted with a couple from Warwick in the caravan near us it was too dark to get any photos. I did mean to be get some in the morning but we slept so well we did not wake up until 7 am and it was all stops out then to have breakfast and get out of there. Consequently I forgot all about the photo -dammit!!
